A General tale of my daily life - of an ordinary fella's view on life in General
It’s not even midnight yet, and I’m at it again. This is the second test of a new posting system – a service called Posterous.
Well let’s give it another go – Happy new Year
This is one of those test message things that i like doing , seemingly, every other week. We'll see if this any better than some of the other things that I tried.
Morning! ! Am on my one day of leave allowed for Christmas.
Its dark and damp and waiting for Tesco,s to turn up (a bit later in the morning to be honest)
Am also waiting to ring the doctors appointment line. That'll be fun the first day back after a five day holiday.
I never thought that I would be so pleased as to see it rain !!
Next thing is to pop my head out of the back door and side if the temperature has gone up as well.
But not yet. Coffee is going cold.
It is seemingly traditional to review the last 12 months at this point of the year.
I have to say I stopped that sort of thing a long time ago, when the negatives out numbered the positives, but not overwhelmed them.
And it has to be said, this year hasn't really been any different to previous years from that point of view. There have been some trials for sure. Several sessions of pain, pain and more pain. But I'm still alive - damaged, bent and twisted. pained, but still able to do what I would wish too. so this year hasn't been the best year, but certainly not the worst.
Bank holiday Monday.
The morning is setting off slowly, and not to bad got that. Am actually wondering what to do first?
Have tried some of the handwriting apps for my pad, and I have to say they are nothing special, even compared to the input apps that actually come with the tab. The swype app (and the app being used to write this) is actually beating all the other options hands down. It still catches me out with certain little foibles, but, as a general rule it is even far quicker than even using the inbuilt keyboard functions.
Anyway, back to uploading photos top Facebook.
Well that was fun.
Just been upto Out of Hours at the local Hospital with a swollen, red mottled leg.
All ok, luckily. Thought it might be some thing serious, but the Doctor has checked and all is reasonably well. Just no more dancing for a day or two.
This looks like the end. Have been trying to sort the photos on and off all day, without much success. Google's failed and so have I .
Pity though. We have some file information, but thats all.
Am really tired today. Poorly type tired I guess. Although, I have to say, I'm not really sure why.
Am making the last few attempts at recovering the photos from Charlie's christening, but it really isn't looking good.
We'll see. Oh well, back to the ironing.
It looks like some of the photo's taken at Charlies Christening have been lost forever. Have downloaded, tired and even purchase a couple of photo recovery software. But without success. Will continue trying later today, but I'm not holding my breath
We really need to start looking for a new Computer Chair.
I raise the piston up to my comfy height, sit down and, within seconds I’m sinking slowly and gracefully down to the bottom setting. Nice fun though this is, it’s about 18inches to low for me.
Never mind, more expense for the end of the month
Haven’t slept , something I thought, something I’d hoped, was something is dark of the past.
My eyes hurt. My back aches and my shoulder hurts.
I might even have gone for a walk – but the British Summer weather has struck again. It’s not just raining – it absolutely throwing it down at the moment. Even ducks aren't dim enough to go out in this.
At least the weather forecast is now for, mainly, light showers. but I’ll believe that when I see it.
That is a hell of a title, very Gothic.
Today has a sort of “the morning after the night before” feeling. Shell shock. Lost. Trying to understand what has gone on and what will be going on now.
Taking anyone into Hospital, even if you know it is the best place for them, is a very, very hard thing to do. And there was really no other option either. There was a certain continuity in ending up sitting, and waiting, in the same waiting Room.
That same loud clock. The same posters. The same announcements – even the one with the typo error that Laura noticed.
Hours and hours of stress and emotion. Always that feeling of the harder you try for the ones you love, the more hopeless and useless you feel. You struggle and plead, and yet you can feel the whole situation slipping out of your hands. That feeling of snatching for a thought, just as something takes it away from you, something dark and ghostly.
Anyway left the hospital at teatime and went from crushed husband to proud Dad.
Although Laura had seen all that had gone on yesterday, stuttering and battered she went on to do her concert and do it well.
A big proud heart at the end of an extremely bad day.
I have just placed Office 2010 on the main computer, and, to be honest I quite like it. More so than the last version, if truth be told.
Anyway, an option on both versions of Office is the ability to post to a Blog.
In the previous version I thought that it didn't work that well so tried it a few times and then gave up and went back to the programs I had previously used. Well I thought that it was time that I Tried the latest version and see what happens with this one.
I'm not sure yet whether the Office 2010 Blog template is any more adaptable than using, say, Live Writer. But as I say, we will have to see.
I wonder if I can twitter or Facebook post from it????
As you will possibly be aware, the last few weeks have been “somewhat difficult”.
It would be fair to say that I distinctly get the feeling of “what have we done wrong to deserve this?”.
I know I’ve not helped the situation with a stream of injuries and problems over the past few years. Damaged back, no feeling in my shoulder and fingers. Dodgy knees and equally dodgy sinus’s. Blood pressure and severe stomach cramps.
All that and still unable to hit a decent end of arrows (Ha Ha).
The problem with that is that you focus on yourself to some extent and not on others – not as much as you should least ways.
There is a pang of guilt for what has happened to my beloved wife ( several pang’s if I’m truthful – all for several differing reasons). I can’t help feel that I’m one of the main reasons for what has happened to her.
She has been the hero whilst bits of me fell off. She managed the whole of the house whilst I was stopped from doing “this and that” for fear of making things worse.
I know other things have happened, things at work. Things that I can take no control of.
I am guilty. Some of this is my fault. And even now I’m still not that sure what we are supposed to do now

I’m sorry if this sounds a bit churlish, but what sort of weather do some people expect in the depths of winter.
Firstly, let me say this – the weather is bad, very bad. Certainly the worst weather that I can remember for a very long time (but not the worst weather that I can EVER remember – but then I am really really old. According to my daughter least ways). But, as I’m typing this the BBC news is on (and I’m not picking on the BBC for any other reason than they are now in ear shot ) but the whole of the media is equally as bad.
It’s all gloom, doom and Siberian based depression.
Once again Britain comes to a grinding halt because we have had a little bit of bad weather.
We just seem to to fall into a panic because of what, to be honest, should be normal Mid Winter weather. Something we should take into account as somewhat normal, something we should be able to deal with.
What do the Scandinavians' do? The Canadians? The Alaskan’s?
They, of course, have proper levels of snow and Ice. And, from what I can work out they get on and deal with the weather. Fair enough, there's not a lot you can do if you house is stuck in the middle of a blizzard, apart from close the door and get the monopoly board out. But other than that they get on with their everyday lives. They know their strategies. They make their arrangements and they deal with it.
That said, I must admit, I’m cold and I too have had enough of it – just like everyone else I suspect.
Carol Kirkwood, the poor BBC News weather presenter, is once again stood in the Blue Peter Garden, wearing the thickest coat you can imagine. Hood pulled as tight as she can to cut out the cold. You can imagine the Cameraman (who is similarly cocooned against the cold) saying “I’m sorry Carol love, but you’ll have to drop the hood. we’re on in 5”. She has delivered yet another doom laden weather forecast for another 5 to 10 c ms of snow today.
I just feel sorry for all the gritter drivers. They get to go out in all that cold weather, in the middle of the night. Working hard to try and help the average driver – just to hear the comment from some of “The Bloody Council – they haven’t gritted the road again”
Lets just get on with it. There is a light at the end of the tunnel – even the weather people say this present freeze should be over within the next ten days or so.
So dig in.
I, for one, will be looking for an extra shirt and a thicker pair of socks. Spring is NOT that far away.
Good morning to everyone and I would like to wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR.
With the seasons greeting over, here we are once again at the beginning of another year. Not only that, but the first new day of the second decade of the 21st Century. A Century that is not longer young, a century that has already had more than it’s fair share of doom and destruction.
In some ways I’m glad that the 09’s have gone. Today is certainly a good point to make a new start – last year was not been one of the Smudger families best. It would also be fair to say that it certainly hasn’t been the worst, but I , for one, will not miss it. The sad part is, that i, personally, have to continue with some of last years more painful consequences, but I guess that that particular issue has the potential to get somewhat worse before it has any chance of getting better – but a lot of the details of that specific “pain” have been documented already.
Normally I’m not a big person for New Years resolutions, but I do have one this year. After the various struggles with my back injury I have gain a little weight (into which read –TOO MUCH). I know why I gained weight, and I know now that I could have done so much more to have managed the situation better. But as they say, hind-sight is a wonderful thing.
So I have to deal with it now. I do have a goal. Within the next year or so, I have been ask to give my “adoptive” daughter away at her wedding and I WILL NOT be a Tele tubby for that.
As I type I can see that the cold and dark of last night, has given way to the crisp bite of new fallen snow. I know this will sound sad, but as the New Year turned the family and friends we were celebrating with looked out of the conservatory door to see the beginnings of the usual New Year Fireworks.
What was really nice was to see that someone had released, what I know as, Chinese Fire Lanterns. You could see them gently rise up into the air, but you could then understand why the air was so cold – there must have been a serious breeze. Once the lanterns got to certain height (one I wouldn’t even take a guess at even in daylight) they really began to move across the sky. Quick, but some how, still calm, gentle, peaceful.
That was nice.
A new powder coat of snow lays across the garden in almost pristine condition – almost. Across the garden I have just noticed (as I nip in and out of the kitchen to top up the coffee levels as I type), various small bird types that you don’t normally seem to see in our garden. Coal Tits and Blue Tits are both hopping from the bushes across to the bird table. I never normally notice them as they tend to get “bullied” off the table by the bigger, less “polite” birds. Starlings and even some muggles Racing Pigeons. But then some days, like today, you just get to see the smaller birds. Sparrows and even our own Robin.
The house is quiet, with everyone else still asleep after the lateness of last nights new year celebrations. The sun is out and the sky a clear blue. The air is crisp, and the snow fresh. It is a peaceful, calm, and somewhat beautiful way to start the New Year.
Have a nice, peaceful day – we all deserve one.
Here I'm sat quietly having lunch at work while realising that I really have so much "Internet Rubbish" There must be hundre...
