A Good Morning and a Merry Christmas

A Good Morning and a Merry Merry Christmas to one and all. This is one on those early “ish” morning I have come to like as I get older.

As most of you may have already guessed, there are not many days that I will get to lie in bed, sleeping on until the mid or late morning like some in the house seem to be able to do without issue. It’s just the way I am. As a norm,I always seem to wake at around 6:30 to 7:00 in the morning, always had and, I guess, I always will.

Today was a lie in of sorts – 08:00.

Anyway, it is Christmas morning.

And, form me to you, all the wishes of the season to you and yours.

But, in our house at least, Christmas Morning is no longer the rush and whirling activity it once was.

At this point in time there are no fevered, excited child like screams of the kids searching for evidence of the visit of Father Christmas. No diving into the piles of presents stacked around the base of the Christmas tree at the dark, doomed, early hours of the morning. No four, five or six years old excited terrors tearing into what everyone had sent via the portly, rouge clad old man, of year long mythology. Although there will, later in the morning no doubt, be piles of disguarded Christmas paper, the floor, at the moment is clear and obstacle free.

There is a certain calm and peace.

As I sit, swivelling about in the computer chair, glancing from side to side. First, half watching the TV (not that there’s any special on at the moment – Dr Who at 6 though). And then, rocking to my left, a quick glance out of the front room window to see what’s left of the weeks snow fall, now made ice.

And I’m peaceful, and its nice.

I also know it will not last. Within the next few hours the rush of the normal Christmas Day visits will begin, the peace gone.

But at least its calm and quiet now.

Merry Christmas

It’s slowly coming upto Christmas

I’m having to get used to being back at work. Having been off for such a long time (in terms of me being off work least ways), getting back into a work pattern is turning out to be a little difficult – but I’m sure that I will work it all out again eventually.

Is everyone ready for Christmas? Or is anyone like me, not that bothered, one way or the other.

It is nice to see that something's’ in Britain remain the same – a small(ish) amount of snow falls, and the whole country stops. I even heard someone on the news say that they hadn’t be aware that the snow was coming (even though the weather services had been screaming for days that the Cold weather was on its way). Even the trains are, once again, being hit by “wrong type of snow”. Nice to see things are, as they should be.

It’s aging to see your Son flying around the roads in his first little Car, flying Winkleft and right like the rest of us, on the ice and snow

Watching the “Red Streak” set off up the road – I really am getting Old.

Have had some good and bad news from the Doctor today.

The Good News? – the MRI Scan from a week or so back showed that there was no major signs of damage to my lower back (although there are a few signs of degradation – whatever that really means), which means the pain and discomfort in my back and leg is something not quite so serious.

The Bad News? – the bad news is REALLY serious. There is now no excuse for not doing some form of EXERCISE

CryingAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!! Crying

tired, but at least I,m back at work - 2 days and it's Christmas. Am I ready -not really

My first day back at work, and I,m still smiling

As you can guess by the title, today was the first day back after several months off work. And, surprisingly. It wasn't to bad. It even turned out (and I hadn't realised) it is actually my day off tomorrow. On top of that. I managed to find my new "old" phone, after losing it for over 24 hours - writing this missive, whilst watching the Gadget Show, on said phone. Whilst tired, today has been a decent day. A really decent day.

Testing testing testing

The title says it all. New software, borrowed smartphone and a basic idea of something to do.

Will it work? I don't really know - but there's only one way to find out

A quick Apology to everyone …

Hi guys

as you can see, it has been fairly obvious to everyone that I have been “messing about” with various device and software in an attempt to automate, for want of a better description, my means of posting to the various blogs and sites I wish to comment on.

The first thing that is obvious – is that there is NOT as one stop solution, so it looks like I can forget that. And, if your not careful you can end up with an information posting cascade, with posts posting posts, posting the same post back, and then posting it again. So that has had to be dealt with.

Anyway – I give, to everyone, a heart felt apology if my playing has caused you any inconvenience. Although my testing is not quite complete, it should calm down somewhat in the next few days.

Thank you for your forbearance

Dave

I,m a little confused

With a title like that I,m just waiting for the expected Laura reply - lol. There are various input means avaliable to means via the Computer, PDA,s and the like. And you would have thought it would be straigthforward to navigate between one and the other means. But, alas, no. I have, today sat waiting for the keyboard to activate on my iPod. Not the virtual one though, but a keypad as found on my phone. And the worst part, I sat there looking for quite a few seconds before I realised. What a jerk!!!
still tired still aching, but unable to work out why I can't twitter from my phone?

I'm going daft. I blame mobiles

I know I've got a few months, but I'm already thinking about what I'm going to do when my mobile contract comes up for renewal.
The thing is I know I probibly won't be able to afford the iPhone, but I do want to be able to Twitter and the like by WiFi (as I am now) or by mobile Internet . But the potential options are absolutly mind blowing. Do I change supplier? Do I get an upgrade to the tariff and phone I have now? Do I get a pay as you go phone, a rolling 30 day tariff and then see if I need something more "expensive". I guess I 've got about three months to think about it.

That’s so funny ….

Am sat here, on the computer deciding how bad I feel. And whether it is the oncoming cold, or the back that’s making me feel worse (whinging sod aren't I?) Anyway, instead of the TV providing the background noise, i have the radio on for a change.

Anyway I am listening to the Lincs FM mid morning show. And , around this time (the time is 10:40 – ish as i type) they play what they call firm favourites'. These are three fav songs from a group or an individual, that listens' to the station on a regular basis.

To this they usually add a call to the person(s) for them to comment, make dedications and the like. The funniest thing is that, this morning the lady they called was a little “profane”, and kept repeating a particular swear word.  Not the worst one that could have been said, but one least ways.

The funniest part?

You could hear the DJ squirm. Poor lad kept trying to point out, politely, to the lady to try and keep it clean.

But, NO.

She repeated the said word several times.

And the poor DJ?

He had to take several deep breathes, make a couple of apologies to those of us listening, just in case of offended hearing

What the …

At wits endWhat the hell am I doing?

I have been awake since around 4:50 a.m. I’ve tired a drink. I’ve moved to the settee so I’m not bothering Cathy. Have put the TV on – quiet. But, as you can see, nothing seemed to have worked. I guess it will be cat maps At wits endwhilst “Homes Under the Hammer” is on.

I’m a bit happier this morning

WinkAfter taking a deep breath (with one of those small “swearing” under your breath moments) and started again with trying to get things to work.

Anyway I've got (I think!) most of the Beta version of Office working and I’ll leave that be for now. Having used Sky+ to watch NCIS Los Angeles – I’m now watching the Celebration of The Carpenters that was ITV a couple of weeks ago. I’ve always liked the Carpenters, ever since I was small. I can imagine some of the comments coming my way , smile_wink , but I don’t really care. The songs where “gentle”, meaningful, soulful. It’s just a shame what happened to Karen – I suppose some people where never really made for fame. It’s sad to see how show business can end up destroying good people.

What a pain

This is an absolute pain in “bottom”. I nearly said that I had made a mistake but that would be, possibly, unfair. I downloaded, via an invitation, the beta version of Office 2010.

The good side – there are many to be honest. in the main, it works. Word, Excel, Publisher and the like pretty good. Nothing much more than we already have, to be blunt. But it works, it does its job.

The Ribbon toolbar has gone, which suits me to a tee. The whole thing is a lot cleaner, better looking. But then comes the negative …

Outlook – it had to be Outlook. The main connection with the digital world. It was just so problematic. Plug-ins didn’t work (Of course they didn't !!) so we disabled them. Makes no difference. The send / receive cycle won’t complete. Googled a possible solution – that didn’t work either. Maybe I was a bit quick, but off came the beta version and, as it turned out, vainly tried to roll back to the original version  of office that I had.

Again, Outlook still doesn’t work. back to Googling a result, and I’m still trying. And failing. I have even tried using an alternative E.Mail client, and that beggar doesn't want to work properly either.

I give up.

I’ll do a few chores first, and then have another go. I wish I hadn’t bothered

Update – yet another week goes by…..

What a shame, another week goes by and nothing much, locally, has changed. Its getting that bad, I’ve ended up spending most of the morning watching the Crime and Investigation Channel. All because I'm fed-up with watching the normal Daytime TV fayre (which is dire to start with).

The plan for today is really really simple. Having already dropped Liam off at College (we must really get him a Car!!) and Cathy at work, I’m going, shortly, to pick up a prescription from the Doctors. Tilly’s already been to the Doctors, on the “long way” round to school , for additional Blood tests – results next week. She’s still not really right after getting over some form of viral infection. But what do I know, I (normally!!) climb  poles.

When I get home there are a few little chores to do (suitable for a potential cripple least ways) and then it’s probably back to doing very little.

Once again the British weather has turned parts of the UK into a disaster zone – just in time for Christmas. As you can see to the left of this missive (please click to see larger version) the North West corner of Britain, Cumbria and the like, has taken a major battering with upto 3 months rain in one day. And all that water falling, in some cases, in areas where the ground is already saturated, and rivers full.

There are even reports of a Police Office missing after a bridge collapsed. I really hope they find him safe. I really feel sorry for all those who are effected. And, at a certain level, relieved that, at the moment, it is not us.

Anyway jobs to do and TV to ignore ……… when I come back , I think I may just turn on the Radio – or even my iPod

Morning Everyone – Morning, but I won’t say Good

Share this post :

Just a quick morning message. I’ve just noticed, as a quick aside, that I tend to send most of my missives in the morning – does that mean I get thicker during the day?

Anyway, as I type I can look out of our main Front Room Window and it’s horrible. It’s Wet. It’s Windy, very Windy and today is the day that Cathy, my wife, has to go to a funeral. With weather like this I’m really really glad that I don’t have to go to work today.
