A New Camera

I so love technology

Ever since I have had money in my pocket, and that was a little paper round I had only a few short years ago ( I wish -    ), one of the first things I ever brought (after a fancy racer bike) was a camera.

I have always had an interest in photography. I am no way near a complete "David Bailey", but I do like to have a bit more control over the pictures I take than is allowed in the "point and shoot" type of camera.

The first camera I ever owned was a totally manual Praktica. (In fact my first TWO camera's were Praktica's)

I suppose, even in their day, they were covered by the phrase "cheap and cheerful" (I only had Paper round pay after all).

What they did do though, where to help me develop the required skills to judge the speed, aperture settings and the like for the various types of image I wanted to take.

However nature then started to get in the way. As a teenager, my eyesight suddenly deteriorated, and I ended up with glasses. No major problem as such, but, for some reason, the focusing of the camera lens became a bit hit and miss.

Then came my "nod" to the technology of the day. I was a full time work, I had my Car. And I had enough money for a "proper" camera.

I could afford a Nikon, and an auto focus one at that.

So I brought a Nikon 401-s. I know it isn't (wasn't ?) the top of the range, but for me it was a real photographers camera, and I have had good service out of it for many, many years ( I still use it in fact)

But time and technology wait for no Smudger. And the age of digital technology dawned at Chez Smudger four years ago. We were given, as part of a computer package, a 1MB Packard Bell camera digital camera. And to be honest, with hindsight, it was awful. The image quality was poor, you had no control of the image - nothing. But at the time -        . You could take pictures and you could view them, alter them, tidy them up, and all without having to that the roll to the processors.

But the limitations were also very obvious. A fixed lens. No Flash. No Control.

Boy did it drive me mad.

My first "proper" digital camera, was a fujifilm 2800.

This was more like it. It had both an optical and digital zoom. A Flash. Memory cards so you had the option to "chnage film". LCD back screen so you could view what you had taken.

A lovely machine, BUT..........

Cathy likes it. The Kids (particulally Laura) like it. It is easy to use. Straightforward.

And thats probibly why I had to look for something else.

Now Smudger is a happy happy bunny.        .

This camera is small and compact. A good standard, mid range device. It has flash. It has a good ramge zoom lens. It has several Exposure modes.

IT HAS CONTROL

It is brill, I can even take black and white photo's with it if I wish.

D-Day

D-Day

I know there will be people out there who will make a far better job at making a full lenght posting on this subject.

So for me, on this 6oth anniversary, all I do is offer my remeberance of all those who took part in this operation.

I have a total respect for all of those who took part, and for those who gave their lives, on all sides. Most of the poeple that took part on that fateful day, and the days and weeks that followed, were just ordinary "joes", just like me, doing what they saw as the "right thing".

Let us remeber them all with reverance and honour.
