Am sat, half watching "Trench Detectives" on the History
Channel.
The basis of the story is that they are investigating the Archaeological
evidence for the crew and fitting of the original MkIV WWI Tanks.
And, as part of this is the description of the awe struck looks on the faces
of the French Villagers as these Machines first trundled (as they never went
faster than slow)down their Village main street on the way to the front.
And how did they represent this?. Archive images of said tank "march". - NO!
They have this old bloke, with his scale model of a Mk IV, going down the
road. The biggest smile came when a present day French Villager came out of
his front door.
He looked down at the model (he must have been a good 6ft tall, the model
4ft if that). Looked at the owner and then the camera crew behind him.
You could see the growing thought (in French) of "What the Hell?????"
